What is compeditor?

Compeditor is a 1v1 turn-based card combat game where players can edit the board as they fight. Using their action deck and resource pool, Players get five actions per turn which they can use to move, fight, and edit the playing field.

Behind the curtain

The first board game I created that felt significant! I’m a big fan of games that give opposing players the same options, then provided multiple avenues for individual expression.

In Compeditor for example, each player has the same deck, featuring special moves like Movement Options to Offensive/Defensive Enhancements to Card/Action Allocations. There are also basic action cards featuring an attack and defense value. Finally, they also have a finite amount of Edit’s they can make to the board, such as creating terrain or hazards.

Players draw two cards per turn, and can make up to 5 actions during their turn consisting of Moving, Editing, and Using their cards to attack. Players alternate playing cards face down during an attack, with no action to the defender, but a limit of 2 cards compared to the offensive’s 3 max. The first player to hit the other for 15 damage wins.

Finally, before beginning, each player can select 3 cards to put facedown before shuffling. These are their “signature moves”, which can be player with out an action cost, allowing for them to create potentially massive combos in a turn. However, after being used that card is removed from the game and can not be recovered, even if the card states it would return to your hand or deck.

Eventually, I would really love to create a non-paper version of the game. Likely though 3D printing. The board would be in a grid with slight indents, with edit spaces being placed as tiles. The cards would be laminated and have some art, and of course little figurines. In fact, you can take a gander at the concept board below!

I feel this perfectly captures the aesthetic I imagine the game to have!

The editing tiles/board would work together much like the single squares above. There would be little holes at each intersection of corners in which grappling pegs and barricades can be secured.

Verticality would be done like this, with spaces stacking up(floors 1-3). Players can only climb up one level at a time, except in the case of a card’s effect. Figurines will be shorter than the height difference of L1 and L3
